2004 Queening Award 
NM Robert Hess 

   This 12-year old player has demonstrated master strength at a young age. In 2002 Robert won the bronze medal at the 2002 Pan-American games. Lately Robert has been flexing his chess muscles. He has defeated the following top US players WIM Jennifer Shahade, IM Irina Krush, and IM Jay Bonin. At the 120th New York Masters tournament, Robert finished in 4th place, behind GM Jaan Elhvest, GM Alex Wojtkiewicz, FM Justin Sarkar and head of GM Gata Kamsky, and GM Leonid Yudasin.  Robert drew with GM Yudasim and defeated IM Irina Krush and IM hopeful Alex Lenderman.  

   This year at the World Youth Championship Robert, seeded 27th, finished in 16th place with 7 points. Robert also enjoys Basketball and History.
     This reporter would like to see Robert take some GM scalps at the New York Masters.
