Driver's Seat
Round 8 helped solidify Sindarov’s position at the top of the standings, Putting him in the driver's seat. After drawing his game with Audrey Esipenko, he maintained first place and now holds a two-point lead over Fabiano Caruana. The round’s most notable result, however, was the awakening of the “sleeping giant,” Hikaru Nakamura, who finally scored his first win of the tournament by defeating the second seed, Caruana.
Nakamura is no stranger to slow starts in major events. A notable example occurred at the 2022 Candidates Tournament in Madrid. Nakamura began the event with a mixed start and was not among the early leaders. As the tournament progressed, however, he found his form and began winning key games, including an important victory over Teimour Radjabov. By the end of the event he had surged up the standings to finish in second place behind Ian Nepomniachtchi. The performance was widely seen as a comeback, especially since Nakamura had played relatively little classical chess prior to the tournament. Another example came at the American Cup 2023. Nakamura did not dominate from the outset, and several of his matches were extremely tight, often being decided in rapid or blitz tiebreaks. In the final against Wesley So, So managed to win the first final match, forcing a bracket reset. Nakamura then had to win a second match the following day to secure the title. He did exactly that, defeating So 2½–1½ to become the champion.
Despite Nakamura’s victory in this round, Sindarov remains firmly in control of the tournament. With only six rounds remaining, Nakamura would likely need an almost perfect finish combined with a significant collapse from Sindarov to catch the leader. Anish Giri scored an important victory today against R. Praggnanandhaa, moving into a tie for second place with Fabiano Caruana, both now two full points behind the tournament leader Javokhir Sindarov. The song for round 8 is Driver's Seat by Sniff'n The Tears Round 9 could help clarify the battle for second place, as both Caruana and Anish Giria play each other. Each player will also have a direct opportunity to close the gap in their head-to-head games against Sindarov in rounds 11 and 13. Notably, both Caruana and Anish Giri will have the white pieces against the tournament leader, giving them a valuable chance to challenge Sindarov’s commanding lead.

Kasparov's comments
In regards to a question by the game getting younger, the world championship match will be between two very young
GM Gukesh Dommaraju,
Javokhir Sindarov, who are both under 21. Kasparov reasoned , Chess is getting younger because they have access to so much information which compensates lack of experience. Sindarov playing with extreme confidence, very fast, no mistakes or blunders Love to see a Sindarov vs Carlsen match, that would be a real world championship. Hypothetically - Gukesh vs Sindarov- Gukesh is very stable. Would be surprised if the match was not close. A Match has different dynamics, there is a different logic so it will be interesting how he's [Sindarov] going to handle his new status, providing he is the candidate. Garry felt Fabiano Caruana was going to draw the rook ending with Nakamura[Fabiano missed played the ending and lost]. As far as what Fabiano has to do to win this tournament. its tough, the pressure. Fabio has to try to win every game. His loss lo to Sindarov in round 4, it's how Fabiano lost to Sindarov. Fabiano was out played in the opening. Laser, laser type finish by Sindarov . Fabiano has to get this game out of his mind. It Is not about losing, it was how he was defeated that matters. Fabiano has to concentrate on his only chance, with white, to defeat Sindarov.
