1/2006 - In April of 2005, an untitled 15-year old, Chinese player, named
Wang Hao, burst on to the chess scene with a stunning victory at the Dubai
open. This young man headed the field of 53 GMs and 30 IMs. Wang took 7 out
of 9 points.
Wang wasn't finished there, he then went on to score 10 out
of 11 at the Tan Malaysian Open. At the Malaysian open, Wang earned his 3rd
GM norm and took the scalps of GM Eugenio Torre and GM Ian Rogers, just to name a
few. The only word that comes to my mind about these incredible
results is WANG-HAO!!!.
I looked the word Wang-Hao up in the dictionary and it means
Incredible, Fantastic, and Sensational. Wang Hao hails from Harbin, China. His
favorite player is Garry Kasparov. Wang also enjoys going over Kasparov's My
great predecessor books.
His other interests are reading, science fiction and listening to
pop music. Wang Hao, at 16 years of age, is poised to break into the 2600+
rating category. His current rating is 2593.
