questions and answers

Kasparov : it’s the most common question, what’s the approach between humans and computers … so different .. that you better (switch the competition() … to play the machine it is more challenging .. because it ( involves ) a lot of creativity as I said in my opening remarks .. it takes a lot more energy and resiliency to get thru a machine challenge

Hangin : can you use this match, your up against perfection or near perfection can you use this to raise your level of play .. tap into your higher potential ? …

Kasparov : yes, I think that this kind of game requires a perfection that is not required in the normal chess competition. So that’s why playing these matches , I am improving my chess skills ...

and I think that man vs. machine contest in general keeps me very much alive at age 40 ..why I am very open playing someone half my age. so it’s a great challenge  … keeps your chess abilities in tact .

Hangin:  You play with a computerized board does that give x3d fritz home field advantage ?

Kasparov – oh..  I am not here to complain ,about the situation I’m in.. but frankly speaking it’s a huge advantage .. not an advantage for the machine, it’s a disadvantage for a human player . so its very difficult to communicate this message to the outside world . because for instance .. I ask for 30 minutes extra time .on my clock ,. Which would be probably fair compensation . (  then its openness ) because you can see all this .. human player has more time, then its handicapped . while this is also a tremendous handicap .. because no one knows how the human mind will react –3-4-5 hours in a long match.. I am practicing now  but I don’t spend more than an hour on moving the pieces. While 3 or 4 hours my mind could be rebelling against this very unusual situation with the board ..

because … in 25 years of my professional chess career .. I am used to pieces and writing the moves on  scores sheets. … it’s a frame work of the game.. that my mind is used to working with suddenly its totally different . I hope I will adjust my self and I will be able to live with this voice activated system, with the machine, with the different angles

if there is too many elements of what I call mindless games .. while I am still struggling with one of the most powerful chess playing computers in the world.

Someone : Garry Kasparov can you give us a little bit more on the virtual reality aspect In your head how much do you rely on looking at the board …and when your playing against virtual reality

Kasparov : that’s the 64 1000 dollar question .. I have been playing all my life with a chess set .. I don’t know .. how much of this is important to my  mind … we have to find out.. I hope the answer will not be a negative one..
