Predictions

MIG

Who was at the Kramnik - Deep Fritz Match in Bahrain. He thinks that Garry will get some winning positions but will have trouble bring home the point.

Lev Aburt

Lev  thinks that X3d Fritz is a tough opponent and Garry will have trouble getting used to the virtual reality. Garry has been playing so long with a real board and pieces. This is a major change, Garry might get tired in 5 hours. and make a mistake.

Lev gave me an advance copy of his new book "three days with Bobby Fischer and other essays" . I read half of the book so far. Its a great enjoyable read. Hangin gives it 4.5 stars out of 5.  Lev will be on Fred Wilson's show after the match is completed. So say tuned. Lev also has another book coming out in a week. it is about chess wisdoms and rules of thumbs. I forgot to say, that Lev autographed the copy of  "Three days with Bobby Fischer", don't let this fool you, it is a great book..

John Fernandez

John has played a lot of games against X3D Fritz. It is tough to beat.  Garry will need to get use to playing in virtual reality. Garry has a copy of the machine and software in his hotel room. Garry has to bring his A game. Fritz is very strong. John installed x3d fritz in Gary's room. He says Kasparov has always been very positive about it  (technology) Kasparov has used the technology better than any one.  He embraces technology quicker .. his mind embraces it quicker . John feels that Kasparov will be acclimated too it. (computer interface) The biggest thing for Garry is the whole experience. Not touching the pieces, not writing the moves down. Garry will use a joy stick to rotate  the board., zoom. He will be using voice recognition software. He will speak the moves.

 Garry Kasparov

when asked how he would react to playing in virtual reality ..  that’s the 64,000 dollar question .. I have been playing all my life with a chess set .. I don’t know .. how much of this is important to my  mind … we have to find out.. I hope the answer will not be a negative one..

David Levy (President of ICGA)

Thinks Kasparov will win. but if he makes a mistake it is all over. He also says that human chess is also improving..

David was not keen on my idea of giving the GM more time, in order to 1) level the playing field 2) make the games more exciting. Garry has a lot to lose, should he lose. Give him time to solve the problems present by X3D Fritz.

Beatriz Marinello (President of USCF)

says they are working to solve the problems with the USCF , little by little. It takes time. Hangin told her he would give her his full support.. Lets all do the same. She needs time to fix the problems.

Fred Wilson's

on his show last week 11/5/2003 feels that Kasparov will use one of his $50,000 novelties and win one of the games and hold off the machine

after the press conference,. I went to Fred's store on 80 West 11ST. Fred's store is always a treat. I picked up 6 great chess books. I have never been disappointed.

Tony Rook -

feels Kasparov will lose to the Silicon Beast. Tony picked Deep Junior as well last time. Poor Tony. Tony has been working with computers too long. They burned him out and I guess he feels they will burn Kasparov out too.

Anson Carter (New York Ranger hockey player)

If he was a betting man, he would bet on Garry Kasparov to win the match. Anson just started playing chess he enjoys it. He also made the first move for Garry Kasparov in game two He spoke the move into the voice recognition system. It was E7-E5.

Hangin (the chess reporter)

Who shook Kasparov's hand after the press conference, and wished him luck. I think that Garry will win the match 2.5 - 1.5 .You just can't bet against the Greatest player in the world. I have to see one of these Silicon Beasts dominate the number one player in the world. This has not happen yet. If  Kasparov can eliminate his mistakes. He can win. I feel that this is a match against perfection or near perfection. It is high time to give the GM more time to solve the problems presented by the Silicon Beasts. This will make the games more exciting and allow Chess to reach higher levels. The GM will get better and so will the computers.  X3D has done it again. Another Great chess Event. I want to change my prediction. You know who's going to win. We all will.
