| Excerpts:
Ashley : welcome back to the 2003 world chess champion, the current score 1.5 – 1.5 Garry Kasparov congratulations on your victory, you completely dominated the machine in this game. Ashley : are you going to go for the win in game 4 . Kasparov : I want to play good chess and see what happens. its very hard to make predictions.... so I'll have good chances. Hoffman The computer thought it had the better position after you took the a pawn.Kasparov : the position was not clear . it was absolutely unclear .. …and the machine had better chances with less counter play … it played with pieces instead of pushing pawns .. so when my king escapes … and got out of the war zone to a more quite place on the queenside. .then the game was technically over .. Kasparov : I try to create positions the machine does not understand., so it’s a matter of opportunity to create this kinds of positions. Ashley : can you force this all the time. …. Kasparov
:; I explained it after the terrible game two, we had a little discussion
. about me being a human player ..playing … first moves not against a
machine, but other humans (
the opening). It’s all psychology here ..between myself a human player
..and the human team programming fritz with moves..
..I think the choice (opening) was not very good today.. because
this position .. Fritz liked the position.. ironically
that’s one of the positions we considered.. but I have to say …
very quickly we dismissed it ..
number of options black could take .. this one was disregarded immediately
.. because the position is closed.. the position was closed and it does
not understand it...so today the opening moves was in my favor
.. also if you look at all the games …
analyze the games …I could lose game 3,4. I could blunder
something ..have a terrible result …but if you analyze these games ..(game
1) I have to admit after
careful analysis ..that .. I
was not winning at all…I had some chances .. machine played extremely
well …and game 1 –2 . I was technically
much closer to winning game 2 ..just 2 moves
before the blunder.. …but I made a big mistake by moving my king
to h7.. rg7 forced
line, long line .. it is in endgame.. the machine does not understand
well.. I had excellent winning chances.. probably winning position, but
requires further analysis.. so
game 2 I was much better than game Yassar : when fritz played a6 what was going thru your mind.. Kasparov : it was easy to say .. I like the position.. .. but that was not our top priority .. when … Kramnik, Karpov having a6 ,,, all the human players have their preferences.. , established playing styles .. or things he or she does not like… now .. with computers.. it does not know.. The machine does not understand. If it's good or bad.. it's going to look for the best move.. so that’s why when preparing for the machine.. you have to look at little bits of difference opportunities in the openings.. and .some of them you take more seriously ..you have to . work out decision making pattern .. and find out what is ..machines customary reaction to you making a move .. we had 5 or 6 different openings .. to consider
.. and this one definitely not our top priority … c5 is very natural to
play with a machine.. but I spent. 10 minutes . ..
I did not know .. what was the character …I was trying to find
the rational .. behind this decision .. because I could play some
different openings .. with white.. not so simple.. my common sense told me
..that I would be better off closing down the position .. and I am
thinking of this . the tricky move was h3 .. it was a tricky idea, because
it did not create any weakness.. so I kept all the pieces protected ...Ii
protected everything on that side. for the machine it was very difficult
make progress... I wonder what Deep Junior would have played .. I
think F5 was possible ...black could have played f5, g5 .. open the There are a number of positions that the computer does not understand.. Game 2 and 3 are
very typical in man vs. machine .. in game two the machine was out played
… I analyzed it very carefully .. I have to tell you .. all the
revelations about game 2 .. added to my confidence .. so I knew that I
… it was not an easy match .. I was lucky
to have two days rest … it’s important to have time to
recover.. because .. when you play a computer..
I have a winning position
I have to figured it out 5 6 times..
not blundering against it.. Ashley : give us some insight on what you do after a loss, you always seem to always come back Kasparov : not always. I wish I did, but more often than other players. It was quite terrible .. when the game is over …losing … a game in that fashion to a computer .. I had to figure out what my chances were to save the match .. or lose two remaining games.. .. with the machine you could easily lose two more games. Your one blunder away from losing the game.. and I was not in a particularly good mood …so I forced myself to analyzed the positions in game two ..I wanted to figure out what happened in game two … It helped… I recognized how good I played before I lose ..gradually I out played the computer .. … analyzing this game was a good experience .. because it help me boost my confidence.. it’s still without out me making the blunders …its not about being outplayed .. its about the machine making great moves.. finding the all the only defenses 5 , 6 , 7 times in a row.. a good player .. ..but still on me Garry Kasparov to make all the difference ..so after finding it out So I was not trying to win today .. it was not about winning or losing …I just decided to play two more good games.. no blunders …play 2 good games ..
