2005 Bust Out Player Award

GM Levon Aronian

1/2006 - In January of 2003, Aronian broke the FIDE top 100 with a 2610 rating. In  July of 2005, he broke into the top 10. In January of 2006, Aronian sits in the five spot on the FIDE rating charts, with a 2752 rating.  Aronian had an incredible year in 2005 and his rating soared 80  points. No question about it, 2005 was a BUST OUT year for this 23-year old player from Armenia.  Levon finished first  at Karabakh and the Gibtel Masters. He also placed 3rd at the European Individual Championship.

 Aronian topped the year off with an exciting showdown with former FIDE Champion Ruslan Ponomariov. Aronian took that match in the blitz overtime to take  first place at the 2005 World Cup.

   In 2006, Aronian will play in the a-group at Corus. He also has a tough candidate match to play against Magnus Carlsen, the rising Norwegian star.
